Harvard tennis player Stephanie Yakoff Commits to Michigan

Stephanie Yakoff, a senior at Harvard University, has committed to transferring to the University of Michigan for her fifth year of collegiate tennis. Yakoff, who recently became the first Harvard women’s tennis player to win a match in the singles main draw of the NCAA Individual Championships, will join the Wolverines as a graduate transfer.

The move aligns with recent NCAA eligibility rule changes that allow student-athletes to use an age-based five-year eligibility window. Yakoff, who graduated from Harvard in the spring with a concentration in government, will enroll in a Master of Business Management program at Ross Business School while competing in the Big Ten Conference.

Yakoff cited the competitive level of the Big Ten and the culture at Michigan as key factors in her decision. She noted that attending a Michigan football game during her recruiting visit helped solidify her choice, describing the experience as a significant culture shock compared to her time in Cambridge.
