Benson and James face deadlines to name running mates
Republican nominee John James has until Friday to submit his choice for running mate, with the pick still needing ratification at a GOP state convention later this month.
Democratic nominee Jocelyn Benson has until August 25 to notify the state Democratic Party of her choice, who also must be approved at a state party convention.
The selections could factor in gender, geographic or ethnic diversity, and legislative experience in Lansing could be an asset because neither nominee has served in the Legislature.
