Charlotte museum festival offers eerie history and macabre marketplace

A Festival of Oddities will open Saturday at a historic museum in downtown Charlotte, featuring more than 100 macabre marketplace vendors and family-friendly activities. The free outdoor festival will include axe throwing, live reptile encounters, a kitten-snuggling tent and a gathering of Michigan horror, fantasy and true-crime authors.

Admission to the museum’s three floors is $5 per person. Self-guided tours will highlight curiosities throughout the building, with proceeds benefiting historic preservation. The festival runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a Saturday night paranormal investigation is sold out. A new elevator makes all three floors accessible.
