Chatfield’s criminal case remains on track for September trial

Former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield’s final pretrial hearing concluded in Ingham County Circuit Court without major developments. Attorneys said the case remained scheduled for trial Sept. 21.

Chatfield faces 13 felony charges alleging he misused funds from political committees and a social welfare organization, including through improper mileage reimbursements and personal use of apartment-related money. His wife, Stephanie, pleaded guilty to embezzlement and received probation, community service and a fine.

The case also includes testimony from two former aides who reached plea agreements and agreed to testify. Chatfield’s attorney has challenged their credibility.
