Congress leader accuses BJP of witch-hunt politics over Rahul Gandhi case

Gidugu Rudra Raju, a Congress Working Committee member and former Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president, accused the BJP government of engaging in witch-hunt politics. He said the filing of a criminal case against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was an example, and he spoke to The Hindu over telephone on Thursday.

Raju said that the case was filed against persons involved in the alleged purification of the Ramleela maidan in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, following the visit of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to the venue. He claimed that people from different sections of society had condemned the case, and that Mr. Gandhi had deplored the practice of untouchability and caste discrimination.

Raju urged the government to withdraw the case immediately, alleging that it was registered with a ‘malafide intention.’ He called for a swift resolution to the matter.
