County parks millage would add $50 a year for some homeowners

Muskegon County voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to approve a 0.5-mill parks and trails tax for 10 years. The levy would cost 50 cents per $1,000 of taxable property value, or about $50 a year for a home with a $100,000 taxable value.

If approved, the revenue would fund county parks, trails and greenways, with 70% going to county-maintained facilities and 30% distributed among 27 municipalities. The proposal cites rising costs, aging facilities and maintenance needs.

The Montague City Council also accepted a state grant for Cullen Field improvements, including a parking lot and pickleball courts, and approved an additional $4,000 for senior farmers market vouchers through the 2026 season.
