Lansing battery plant begins full-scale operations

LG Energy Solution held an opening ceremony Aug. 18 for its Lansing plant, which has begun full-scale operations. The facility will produce lithium iron phosphate batteries for energy-storage systems and ternary batteries for electric vehicles, with expected annual capacity exceeding 35 gigawatt-hours.

The Lansing site is part of the company’s North American manufacturing network and is expected to supply energy-storage customers and batteries for Toyota vehicles. Company and state officials said the plant will support domestic battery production, skilled jobs and Michigan’s role in the battery supply chain.
