Delta Township drops fireworks from 2026 budget
Delta Township canceled its Fourth of July fireworks for a second consecutive year, citing the cost of police protection and a shortage of officers available through mutual aid.
The township’s 2026 budget removed $39,000 for fireworks and estimated another $50,000 would be needed for police overtime. Township Manager Brian Reed said staffing shortages ended free assistance from nearby departments, while a failed millage also eliminated county sheriff patrols.
The budget projects $21.73 million in revenue and expenditures, including a $428,000 increase in property tax revenue. The township plans smaller summer events instead of the fireworks display.
