East Lansing prepares for heavy turnout in November election

East Lansing officials expect high turnout in the Nov. 3 general election after about 8,000 residents voted in the August primary, up from just over 5,000 in the 2024 primary. Absentee ballots have been mailed, and the city now has five ballot drop boxes.

The city reduced its precincts from 17 to 13, so some residents may have new polling locations. The crowded ballot includes statewide, congressional, legislative and school races, along with five proposed city charter amendments and two citizen-led initiatives.
