Eaton County voters renew 911 dispatch funding

Eaton County voters approved a five-year renewal of funding for 911 emergency dispatch services in Tuesday's primary election, securing continued round-the-clock dispatch for police, fire and EMS agencies across the county.

The vote follows the failure of earlier county tax proposals, which forced officials to cut about $8.4 million from the budget last fall. Those cuts eliminated most of the Sheriff's Office road patrol and ended animal control services.

Tuesday's result does not reverse those earlier reductions, but it does guarantee dedicated funding for one of the county's core public safety functions going forward.
