Economist doubts Trump’s $5,000 check proposal will become reality

Holz-Eakin also questioned earlier proposals involving payments tied to government savings, tariffs and child care.
Holz-Eakin said the administration faces broader economic challenges, including elevated inflation, rising national debt and a growing deficit. He called for tighter control of federal spending and debt without raising taxes.
