Farm groups push for renewed USMCA talks as tariffs strain trade

The American Farm Bureau Federation is urging the United States and Canada to resume negotiations over the future of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement as tariffs strain trade relations. A 50% U.S. tariff on Canadian imports is in effect, while Canada plans retaliatory tariffs targeting some U.S. agricultural products on Sept. 8.

Michigan has traded more than $1.6 billion in goods through USMCA. Canada and Mexico are major markets for U.S. agricultural exports, and dairy products and farm equipment are among the goods affected by Canadian tariffs.
