House Democrats gear up for comprehensive oversight of Trump administration

House Democrats are preparing a comprehensive oversight agenda that could span several committees if the party gains control of the chamber in November. With majority power comes larger budgets and staff, enabling investigations, subpoenas, and potential impeachment of President Trump and his Cabinet. Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York said the party will hold the crooks accountable for corruption that has cost the American people.

The agenda covers Trump family business dealings, the administration’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, ICE operations, and the Department of Health and Human Services under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Ranking Democrats on the Oversight and Government Reform, Foreign Affairs, and Natural Resources committees have outlined priorities that include corporate corruption and international dealings. Rep. Robert Garcia of California, Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, and Rep. Jared Huffman of California are among those charting the investigations they plan to tackle.

If Democrats win control, the committees will issue subpoenas, call witnesses, and follow the evidence where it leads. The White House is expected to play hardball if confronted with investigations, and the party is bracing for an administration that may ignore subpoenas or refuse to turn over paperwork. The Democrats will act like Congress, using the tools at their disposal to address the widespread corruption and abuses of power.
