Ingham County voters reject Lansing Shuffle sale, approve hotel tax hike

Ingham County voters rejected a proposal to sell the Lansing Shuffle riverfront property, with nearly 53% voting no. Had it passed, the Lansing City Council would have decided on a purchase request from Detroit Rising instead of continuing to rent out the property for about $2,000 a month.

Voters approved a 3% increase to the county's hotel tax, with 62% in favor. Officials said the additional revenue will help improve attractions that draw visitors to Ingham County, including updates to the Ingham County Fairgrounds and Jackson Field.

Several other Ingham County millages were renewed. The Capital Area District Library tax passed with more than 74% support, renewing the levy for four years at a cost of about $13 a month for a home with a $100,000 taxable value. The Ingham County Trails and Parks property tax renewal also passed with 74% approval.

Voters renewed the transportation millage for the elderly and disabled with more than 79% support, and approved the Potter Park Zoo millage renewal and restoration with more than 75% of the vote.
