Lansing area projects receive grants as schools and developments advance

Lansing received a $1.2 million federal BUILD grant for preliminary engineering and planning in the IPACE intersection area, including I-96, Pennsylvania Avenue, American Road, Cedar Street and Edgewood Boulevard. The grant covers planning and design only, with construction funding needed from other sources.

Meridian Township also received a BUILD grant to improve the Okemos and Hamilton roads intersection in downtown Okemos, with work projected for 2028-29. Lansing marked the opening of the new $40 million Willow School at 1025 Ontario St., expected to serve about 500 K-8 students in 18 classrooms.

DBI, a Lansing-based design and office furniture company, completed a transition to employee ownership through the Michigan Employee Ownership Pilot Program. In East Lansing, City Council approved the 12-story Howard project on Grand River Avenue and rejected a separate 10-story project at the Bailey Street parking lot site.
