Massie pushes impeachment of Hegseth over Iran war violations

On Tuesday, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie introduced a resolution to impeach Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, alleging constitutional violations in the conduct of the Iran war. The proposal, which must be voted on by Thursday, comes just weeks before the November 3 midterm elections, placing House Republicans in a key position to shape the national agenda.

Massie’s resolution lists eight specific violations, including Hegseth’s engagement in hostilities in Iran for over 90 days without congressional authorization, failure to honor a war‑powers resolution approved in June, and civilian casualties from a U.S. Strike on a school in Minab that killed more than 168 people. The document also accuses Hegseth of extrajudicial killings of at least 221 individuals on Caribbean and eastern Pacific vessels, suppression of free speech through retaliation against Senator Mark Kelly, and involvement in military operations in Venezuela and Yemen.

If the resolution passes, it will move to the Senate, where Republican leadership will decide on a trial for Hegseth. The measure is expected to attract significant Democratic support, building on Massie’s prior success in securing bipartisan backing for other high‑profile initiatives.
