Michigan schools drop in national rankings, U of M falls to 25, MSU to 69

U.S. News & World Report released its 2027 Best National Universities rankings, showing that Michigan’s largest schools have dropped in national placement since last year.

The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor fell from No. 20 nationally last year to No. 25 in the 2027 rankings, earning an overall score of 84 out of 100 and ranking No. 3 among public schools nationally.

Michigan State University slipped from No. 64 in 2026 to No. 69 in the 2027 rankings, with an overall score of 69 out of 100 and a top placement in its supply chain management/logistics program.

In the 2027 national rankings, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, and Harvard University occupy the top three spots with scores of 100, 99, and 96, respectively.
