Patriotism and unity across the US: a letter to the nation

The letter argues that Americans of all political stripes share a love for the nation and that patriotism and generosity are still present across the country. The author cites his travels in Alaska and the East Coast, and his experiences on the Appalachian Trail in 2009, in Mongolia in 2018, and the outpouring of unity after the attacks of September 11, 25 years ago.

He contends that the 'Other Half' of the country is not unpatriotic, but rather supportive, and that Americans are the same people today as those bound by tragedy 25 years ago. The author calls on readers to remember what resides within all of us today as Americans, and to pledge to see and believe in the patriotism and goodness in each other as friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens.
