Trump administration sets $90 Medicare premium rebates for millions of seniors
President Donald Trump said his administration would send $90 rebates to Medicare beneficiaries to help cover Part B premiums. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said 20.8 million people are eligible.
Some beneficiaries are expected to receive direct deposits in early October, followed by an email or letter from Trump. Others are expected to receive paper checks from the Treasury Department later this month, before the Nov. 3 midterm elections. The rebates are funded through the Medicare Improvement Fund, established by Congress in 2008.
CMS said Congress has also withdrawn money from the fund on several occasions to offset new spending. The agency described Trump as the first president to use it.
