Trump ties proposed Washington arch to national security

President Donald Trump said a proposed triumphal arch near Arlington Memorial Bridge would serve as a military complex housing drones, snipers and ammunition. The announcement followed protests over his takeover of the Kennedy Center and a federal judge’s order requiring 30 days’ notice before major physical changes there.

National Park Service officials said the arch’s construction would adversely affect Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial and other historic sites. The DC Preservation League said the project’s approval process was inconsistent with federal preservation practices and regulations.
