Vance targets Michigan Senate rival at first midterm campaign rally

Vice President JD Vance attacked Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed at a Republican rally in Sterling Heights on Monday, calling him “evil” and accusing him of divisive and antisemitic views. Vance campaigned for Republican nominee Mike Rogers before an audience of about 200 people.

Vance focused on immigration, alleged fraud and trucking regulations while avoiding President Donald Trump’s tariffs and trade tensions with Canada. Democrats have argued that the economic fallout from those policies, including higher household costs, gives them an opening in Michigan.

Rogers also sought support from Jewish and Indian American voters by criticizing El-Sayed’s comments about a synagogue attack, online ties and the family of second lady Usha Vance. El-Sayed apologized for his synagogue-related remark over the weekend and said Vance’s visit was intended to distract from issues such as grocery prices.
