Stocks near record as oil prices and bond yields ease
U.S. Stocks rose Monday as oil prices and Treasury yields pulled back from last week’s sharp increases. The S&P 500 gained 1.5% and closed within 0.4% of its record, while the Dow rose 0.7% and the Nasdaq climbed 2.3%.
Brent crude fell to about $100 a barrel, down from nearly $110 last week, while the 10-year Treasury yield eased to 4.97%. Gasoline prices remained elevated, with the national average near $4.48 a gallon, up from less than $4.32 a week earlier and $3.18 a year ago.
Markets also advanced across Europe and Asia as lower oil prices and bond yields eased pressure on investors, households and businesses.
