Lansing lawyer reclaims license after decade in recovery

Jarrod Barron, a Lansing attorney who lost his law license during a battle with addiction, was reinstated by Ingham County Judge Clinton Canady in a ceremony attended by family and recovery supporters. Barron, who spent time living under the Oakland Avenue Bridge, described the process of rebuilding his life as a daily effort supported by a wide network of friends, sponsors, and coaches.

The reinstatement follows a period where Barron was ten years into recovery and serving on the board of Face Addiction Now. His wife, Carrie Barron, noted that their decision to address his addiction firmly was a turning point for their family, allowing their two young sons to witness his journey back to the legal profession. Barron emphasized that his family served as a guiding force, or 'north star,' during his years of sobriety.

During the proceedings, colleagues and community members testified to Barron's dedication to the legal profession and his ongoing work helping others with substance use disorder. Barron stated that he views the people in his support system as having 'jointly and severally' saved his life, marking the reinstatement as a milestone in his continued commitment to service and sobriety.
