El-Sayed outlines Medicare for all and Labor priorities

Abdul El-Sayed, who became the first Muslim U.S. Senator in American history after defeating Mike Rogers in Tuesday's election, outlined his top legislative priorities in a Wednesday interview. The former public health official said he will focus on addressing rising health care costs by backing Medicare for all and working across the aisle to limit the monopolistic power of health care companies.

El-Sayed also stated he will push to pass the PRO Act, a bill designed to expand workers' ability to unionize and strengthen protections under the National Labor Relations Act. He plans to fight to keep money out of politics by limiting corporate and special interest spending and reducing the influence of super PACs.

On education, El-Sayed said he will address Michigan's literacy ranking by tying funding for the department of war to the department of education. He also plans to invest equitably in supplemental funding for schools and increase IDEA funding for students with special needs.
