Barrett outlines agriculture priorities in reelection bid

U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett, a Republican seeking reelection in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, received the Michigan Farm Bureau AgriPac’s Friend of Agriculture endorsement. The district includes most of Eaton County along with several other counties.

Barrett cited rising costs, workforce shortages and regulatory pressures as challenges for farmers. He said he supports agricultural research, streamlining the H-2A guest worker program, pursuing new export markets and promoting year-round access to E-15 fuel. He also pointed to $3 million secured for repairs and maintenance at Michigan State University’s Plant Science Research Greenhouse Facility.
