Benson gains support from first responders, veterans at Warren event

On Monday, September 28, 2026, Michigan gubernatorial candidate Jocelyn Benson received endorsements from first responders and veterans at an event in Warren.

National Security Leaders for America’s retired Marine Corps Major General Michael Lehnert praised Benson’s work as Michigan secretary of state, while Michigan Professional Firefighters Union President Matt Sahr highlighted affordability and the impact of high energy costs on the economy.

The event took place at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 124 in Warren, where the group, along with the statewide organization and the Police Officers Association of Michigan, also endorsed Benson’s Republican opponent, Congressman John James.

U.S. Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) was present, noting that high energy costs are a burden on everyone and that the White House’s potential fuel tax suspension could benefit the economy.
