Chatfield embezzlement trial set to begin Tuesday in Ingham County
The trial of former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield on 13 felony charges is expected to begin Tuesday, Sept. 22, in Ingham County Circuit Court. The charges include conducting a criminal enterprise and embezzlement from a nonprofit organization.
An evidentiary hearing is scheduled for Monday before jury selection begins. Chatfield has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors allege he used nonprofit and political committee funds for personal expenses and improper reimbursements. His wife and two former aides have pleaded guilty to related charges and may testify at trial.
