East Lansing shops anticipate a fall boost as students return

Downtown East Lansing businesses are preparing for more customers as Michigan State University students return to the city. Many students have already arrived, with the final wave expected between Aug. 25 and Aug. 27.

Better Aged manager Jacob Thomas said about 90% of the store’s customers were away during the summer. Curious Book Shop owner Ray Walsh, who has operated downtown for decades, said the annual return of roughly 25,000 students brings increased business each fall.
