House weighs temporary funding measure to avoid shutdown

The House returned to Washington after a five-week recess with keeping the federal government open at the top of its agenda. The Senate has passed a stopgap measure that would fund the government through December, including the November midterm elections.

Rep. Glenn Ivey, D-Md., said there is a “very good chance” the bill will pass, though he has not decided how he will vote. He cited the impact a shutdown would have on federal workers while weighing Democrats’ focus on health care, tariffs and affordability.
