Ingham court blocks prediction-market contracts in Michigan

An Ingham County court issued a preliminary injunction barring Kalshi from offering event contracts to Michigan residents. Violations could bring fines of up to $500,000 a day.

The ruling follows a temporary restraining order issued in June. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Kalshi was operating a gaming business without state approval.

The dispute could reach the U.S. Supreme Court after New Jersey filed a petition seeking review of whether federal regulators or individual states have authority over prediction-market contracts.
