Large military training exercise draws thousands to northern Michigan

More than 9,000 service members are training in northern Michigan for Northern Strike 26-2, a major reserve-component military readiness exercise involving participants from 36 states and territories and five international participants.

The exercise, held twice a year since 2012, is the largest summer Northern Strike since the program began, according to a Michigan National Guard public affairs officer. Training uses more than 200,000 acres of land, the Great Lakes and air, space and cyber capabilities.

Military leaders said the training reflects lessons from current global conflicts and brings together U.S. branches, allied forces and industry partners. Exercises include combat operations, live-fire training, logistics support, autonomous resupply, medical drones and 3D printing for parts and capabilities.
