Senate confirms Todd Blanche as attorney general

Todd Blanche won Senate confirmation as attorney general at 4 a.m. Eastern Time on Saturday after weeks of objections from several Republican senators over his record and conditions they had sought before supporting him.

Sens. Thom Tillis, John Cornyn and Bill Cassidy ultimately backed Blanche. Sens. Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins opposed the nomination.

Blanche is set to face a court hearing Thursday in a lawsuit filed by Katie Phang over the Justice Department’s withholding of certain Epstein files. Senior U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan has questioned the department’s compliance with an order to provide documentation supporting its position.
