Michigan primary tests party factions in Senate and governor races
Michigan’s primary races put major party divisions on display Tuesday, including the Democratic Senate contest between Rep. Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed.
Stevens has support from Sen. Gary Peters, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and a pro-Israel lobbying group. El-Sayed is backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and supports liberal policies including abolishing ICE.
The Republican governor’s race also features a key endorsement from President Donald Trump, who has backed Rep. John James against businessman and 2024 Republican presidential candidate Perry Johnson.
