Missing tubers found alive along Muskegon River after days-long search

Two women and a 9-year-old child who went missing while tubing on the Muskegon River were found alive and safe Friday afternoon, Michigan State Police said. Jazman Hock, 28, Sarah Vida, 28, and 9-year-old Kayden Kovalcik were located roughly three-quarters of a mile northeast of the Mill Iron Road Boat Launch by a police K-9 team and Michigan Department of Natural Resources officers around 4:30 p.m.

State police said the search, which began Wednesday evening, involved multiple law enforcement agencies, fire departments, search and rescue teams and volunteers. The group had gone tubing on the river and was reported missing after one woman's father found her vehicle at the Maple Island Boat Launch with a window broken out.

Investigators said the family did not realize the group was missing until one of the individuals missed a medical appointment. Police recovered at least two inner tubes believed to belong to the group Thursday and identified footprints being evaluated as part of the investigation. Authorities have not released details on what led to the disappearance, citing the privacy of those involved.
