Supreme Court ruling fuels fight over majority-Black districts

A Supreme Court decision in Louisiana v. Callais has prompted efforts across Southern states to redraw majority-Black congressional districts. In Louisiana, Republican legislators approved a map that would replace Rep. Cleo Fields’ majority-Black district with one that voted overwhelmingly for Donald Trump in 2024.

The ruling and subsequent redistricting efforts could affect more than a dozen congressional seats before the 2028 elections, along with as many as 140 majority-Black and Hispanic state legislative districts, according to the material.
