Homeowner and two dogs escape Carmel Township House fire

The Charlotte Fire Department responded to a house fire in Carmel Township early Monday after the homeowner woke to find the home filling with smoke. He and his two dogs escaped safely, and no injuries were reported.

The homeowner drove to the Charlotte fire station shortly before 3:30 a.m. To alert officers after he could not get neighbors’ attention. Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames involving the basement and both floors, then quickly brought the fire under control.

A preliminary investigation indicated an electrical short-circuit arc in the home’s wiring likely caused the fire. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the homeowner with immediate needs.
