Man died in police shooting on Lansing’s Jolly Road
A 29-year-old man was shot and killed by Lansing police officers early Sept. 23 on East Jolly Road after he pointed a firearm at officers, the department said. Officers had responded to reports of a man with a handgun banging on doors and windows and threatening to shoot himself or officers.
Police said officers tried to use a Taser before the man ran, turned and pointed his gun at them. No residents or officers were injured, and police recovered a firearm.
Michigan State Police took custody of evidence and will investigate the shooting. The Lansing officers involved were assigned to administrative duty pending a determination of their roles. The department said it planned to release relevant video footage later.
