Suspect arrested in fatal I-69 crash, vehicle still missing

Police arrested a 39‑year‑old Charlotte man on Saturday, Sept. 26, the day after a fatal hit‑and‑run on I‑69 in southern Eaton County. The suspect was identified through witness statements and a crash investigation, state police said in a Sept. 28 release.

The crash occurred at about 9 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes near M‑100. A 52‑year‑old DeWitt man was struck after he had pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder to check his trailer. The driver of the offending vehicle did not stop to check on the injured man.

Investigators are still searching for the suspect’s vehicle, a gray 2018 Jeep Compass with damage to the right front, including a broken passenger‑side mirror and possibly a missing or damaged right‑side headlight. Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to call the Lansing Post at (517) 322‑1907, they said.
